Laos Salt and Light
Salt’n Light Laos strives to meet the emotional and social needs of women who are at risk or have been sexual exploited. Salt’n Light has a house set up that helps engage them in capacity building pursuits such as English studies, art projects, regular physical fitness activities, group outings and HIV seminars.
The house owned by the Salt’n Light has been renovated so that a carport has been transformed into a beauty salon. This Beauty Shop within the house has proven to be a success as the girls are happy and excited to pursue this employment opportunity instead of the sex trade.
When the young women have completed a course in hair styling, facial massage, nails, and make-up, they then teach others and together they manage a steady flow of customers within the business.
The Salt’n Light house also provides a place to build healthy friendships for these women, helping them know they are not alone. In such a peer-driven culture, this close-knit community is vital for mutual encouragement, ongoing resilience building and providing emotional safety.
