ACC International Relief Appeal:

ACC International Relief is holding an Appeal with the aim to raise $50,000.

Situation

The Philippines saw its heaviest rain in more than four decades, when 40 cm of rain fell on the city within 12 hours on saturday 26th September. The tropical storm was then upgraded to a typhoon which hit the Philippines with winds of up to 100 km an hour.

1.8 million people have been affected by the storm across the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam with more than 400 officially reported dead.

“Water was as high a 8 meters in worst affected areas of the Philippines”, says fieldworker Mark Pedder from Australia who is in partnership with ACC World Relief.

The country appealed for foreign aid to help more than 450,000 people displaced by the disaster.  380,000 were brought to about 200 schools, churches and other evacuation shelters. Those displaced have lost everything and are now at risk of contracting water and airborne diseases.

ACC International Relief’s Response

With your support, ACC International Relief has been able to provide relief assistance to disaster affected families which included:

The distribution of Restart packages to 100 families. Each package is the equivalent of about 2 months income. Each package distributed included:

• 50Kg rice
• New mattress
• School books, stationary and uniforms
• Household goods including pots, pans and utensils
• Basic foodstuffs
• Medical kit
• Hygiene items

These packages have helped touch the lives of  approximately 750 children, women and men.

The ongoing work which ACC International Relief is currently involved in includes:

• Continued distribution of Restart packages to other families in the same locality.
