Bihar Floods
ACC International Relief, endorsed by Regional Director for Central Asia, Ps David Storer, raised funds for short term emergency relief to alleviate the suffering of communities affected by the extensive flooding of the Kosi River in Bihar, north-east India.
In the worst flooding in the region for 50 years, one million people had been displaced, and 1700 villages inundated in the Bihar state. Through our field partner, Empart, ACC International Relief prioritized relief assistance to the most needy within the worst hit remote areas, including Kishanganj, Purnima and West Champaran districts.
Our field partner worked in the provision of: relief kits with rice, wheat flour, pulses and vegetables, cooking utensils, stove, kerosene, bed sheets, and stationery items; emergency medical care to assist in treating increase in diarrhea and black fever cases; and assistance within a temporary relief camp with a marginalised social group.
